In 1967, the Summer of Love brought 100,000 people to San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury. When the scene burned out, the most committed idealists looked north. The land was open, cheap, and unpopulated. They built roads, schools, fire departments, hospitals, and community centers.

Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity. Over 20,000 farms. The largest cannabis-producing region in the United States. The rich soil and Mediterranean climate are to cannabis what the geology of Napa Valley is to wine.
Why the floweris different here.
Warm days and cool nights develop rich terpene and cannabinoid profiles found nowhere else. The combination of elevation, coastal proximity, and inland valleys creates microclimates that make the cannabis distinct in both flavor and potency. This is terroir.
Refined overdecades.
In the 1970s, Humboldt growers refined sinsemilla, producing seedless flowers with dramatically higher potency. By the 1980s, Humboldt cannabis was the standard. Some farms here are now worked by three generations of growers, each passing down techniques and strains exclusive to the region.
Californialed the way.
Dennis Peron opened the San Francisco Cannabis Buyers Club, openly providing cannabis to over 9,000 patients. He wrote and championed Proposition 215. On November 5, 1996, California became the first state in the nation to legalize medical cannabis.
